A three alarm fire swept through the 125 year old New Baptist Temple Church next door to our main branch on July 8th 2010. The fire destroyed parts of the balcony section which housed a famous 110 year old pip organ. The church is now closed by order of the Fire Department. Service is being held outside until arrangements can be made.
When Gem heard of the fire and their need of assistance a company wide fund raising effort was launched. Gem CEO Mitchell Kaminsky pledged the first check and promised to match all employees donations. Church Pastor Edwin Colon expressed his gratitude to Gem and its employees that helped make it all happen. A check presentation was made on Sunday July 25th by Gem employees Kenneth Conn, Denise Jaworski, Vanessa Moore and Sandra Gaudino. Gem raised over $2400 for the rebuilding efforts.
Special thanks to Queens Village donation of over $200.
